Diabetes - Getting started - Taking Control

Foreword

“You’ve got diabetes”. None of us want to hear it. You are suddenly left with thinking life is over and now from being a person I am going to be a pill popper and a patient. It raises a lot of questions. Will I be able to eat my favorite food? Will I be sick all the time? Will I be on insulin injections? Who is to blame? Why me? Is there a cure? Will I ……

You are suddenly besieged with information from friends, colleagues and family all volunteering information with their understanding of diabetes. People talk about their personal experiences with food, drugs, diet, exercise, cures, control of sugars, complications, hypos, travel and life with diabetes.

This book offers a comprehensive review of diabetes for patients with pre-diabetes and the newly diagnosed and clarifies many of your questions. It is a valuable aid to the essential process of understanding and coming to terms with living with diabetes.

It is with much delight I write the foreword to this information booklet. An excellent effort has gone in from a lot of health professionals from several organisations including the Mackay Division of General Practice. This booklet is very comprehensive and simple to understand for those sitting on the fringe of being diagnosed with diabetes and for people with type 2 diabetes.
