Driving with Diabetes

New laws came into effect on March 2006 introducing a mandatory requirement for all driver licence holders to report any long term or permanent medical condition to Queensland Transport that may affect their ability to drive safely. Diabetes is a listed medical condition.

Queensland Transport recommends you should talk to your health professional about your diabetes and any impact this may have on your ability to drive safely. Health professionals are qualified to check if you are medically fit to drive.

Please note that for commercial drivers a specialist review may be required. This could take some time to get a specialist appointment, so it is advised that you consult with your GP as soon as possible.
